What's Going On

This has been a busy week with a lot going on.  Earlier in the week I blogged about Nathan's weird whatever-it-was sickness.  Thankfully, after he came home from the clinic (where they were clueless about what was going on too), it just slowly went away, and by the afternoon he was back to normal. 

Tuesday was our 13th wedding anniversary.  But it was just a crazy day.  That was the day we had Nathan at the clinic.  Then we were hosting our evening Bible study at our house, and since my house help has been really sick and gone to Goroka to await surgery, I had lots of cleaning to do.  So we didn't do anything for our anniversary on that day.

Instead, on Friday morning, since all the kids but Elijah are gone at school, we decided to have a brunch, just the two of us.  Elijah was kind enough to take a nice nap right from when I was cooking until we finished eating.  It was just nice to sit and enjoy a leisurely breakfast together and have uninterrupted conversation.  (and on a school morning, no less, when normally, IF I get breakfast, it's usually eaten on the run as I am packing lunches for the kids and such!)

Friday night we went as a family to the "Skate Night" put on by the highschoolers.  The Meeting house is transformed and all the benches normally used for church on Sundays were stacked on the sides.  There were colored and flashing lights, and lots and lots of kids skating.  Since we don't own our own roller skates/blades, our kids just had to dig thru this massive jumble of ancient roller skates, trying to find ones that had laces and would fit.  (I think some roller rink must have donated heaps of old skates like 30 years ago or something and someone at some point shipped them over here.)  Overall, they had a fun time, but since for both Kaitlyn and Nathan, these rare skate nights are their only experiences on roller skates, both of them are pretty slow and shaky.  Julianne was gun-ho to try skating, so finally Matt found two skates that sort of fit her (two different ones, no less!).  We took turns practically carrying her around, but she had a blast!

Today (Saturday), Matt is supposed to be spending a good part of the day helping to be a Softball Umpire at the tournament that's going on today between the Ukarumpa High School kids and several nearby (or sort of) school teams (both another mission school and some local PNG schools).

This evening, Matt and I are looking forward to getting together with good friends for dinner, conversation and playing games.  We've got a babysitter coming, and we're going to get an evening out with adults only (well, Elijah will be there too, but he's usually not a problem).

Tomorrow night we're planning a family "movie night".  We have a "Modern Marvels" show on how Candy is made, so we're going to watch that.  And how can you watch a show all about candy without having some candy to snack on?  So we got some special treats from the store. 

Finally, Monday is a Public Holiday, so the kids are thrilled to be off of school.  We don't have any set plans yet, but I'm sure they'll enjoy playing with their friends and not going to school.
