Book Parade

The last 2 weeks of school here have revolved around reading.  For a week, the kids recorded how much they read each day and each class was trying to reach a goal.  The prize for all the classes reaching the goal?  They would get to watch one of their teachers eat bugs!  What more does a 2nd grade boy need for motivation!  Nathan came home that first Monday and the first thing he said to me was "GUESS WHAT! If we read enough, we get to watch Mr. Doron eat BUGS!" =)
(Not that my kids need any motivation to read... I think Kaitlyn and Nathan on average read about an hour each day, just on their own initiative)
The second week ended with the annual Book Parade.  Now, while Kaitlyn is already in Grade 4, and the classes from Kindergarten-6th grade participate in this each year, this is still our second time ever to be here for it.  The last time we were "in town" (and not in the village/ on furlough/ in Cairns having a baby) was back when K was in 1st grade!
So, the kids figured out which book characters they wanted to dress up as (Nathan went as Darth Vader and Kaitlyn dressed up as Cinderella), and then we all went and had a picnic lunch at the school on Friday.  After lunch, each class lined up and paraded around campus and ended up on the basketball court, where, because they did in fact reach all the class goals, Mr. Doron did eat a bunch of bugs, to the great amusement of all the kids!
